:: Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida presents The Nutcracker
Where: Parker Playhouse - 707 NE 8th Street Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33304
Saturday, December 8, 2007
Time: 7:00 PM
Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida is proud to present Vladimir Issaev's version of "The Nutcracker" with more than 100 dancers on stage in the most traditional Russian style at the Parke Playhouse.
This traditional ballet comes to Fort Lauderdale for the first time after its tenth anniversary in Miami. This family, holiday tradition is performed every year by Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida to Tchaikovsky's popular score based on the tale of Ernest Hoffman. Not only is it the most popular ballet enjoyed by all audiences around the world during this time of the year but it also serves as an introduction to ballet to the very young audiences.
Clara, the main character of the story, is given a beautiful Nutcracker during her family's Christmas Eve party. After family and friends have departed, Clara sneaks back to the tree to check on the Nutcracker. In her dreams she is witness of a battle between the Nutcracker and his army of toy soldiers and the Mouse King with his army of mice. The Nutcracker turns into a handsome prince and takes her on a journey through the Land of Snow, welcomed by dancing snowflakes. Next she finds herself in the Land of Sweets, where she meets the Sugar Plum Fairy and is rewarded with a celebration of dances from different lands.
